Mini Apple Crumbles

Ramekins are a fun way to bake and serve individual apple crumbles. (Plus they are just big enough to top with a scoop of ice cream)

Mini Apple Crumbles

Crumble

  • 6 tbsp flour

  • 3 tbsp brown sugar

  • 3 tbsp butter

Apples

  • 4½ cups peeled diced baking apples (such as granny smith)

  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar

  • 3 tbsp golden raisins

  • 1 tsp lemon juice

  • ½ tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease 6 to 8 ramekins. I used 8 because I have one cup ramekins, but with 11 oz ramekins you'll probably only need 6.

2. To make the crumble, combine flour, brown sugar, and butter. Cut in the butter using a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. For the apple mixture, combine apples, sugar, raisins, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt and stir to combine.

4. Divide apple mixture evenly between the ramekins. Sprinkle flour mixture evenly over apple mixture in each ramekin. I find it helpful to put the ramekins on a baking sheet before placing the oven. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

5. Serve warm and enjoy!

We are in the height of apple season! So now is the perfect time to bake with apples. Cooler weather has come and I for one am ready for the cozy-ness that warm apples, cinnamon, and brown sugar bring. This dessert is delicious topped with a scoop of ice cream or some milk, but also holds up on it's own if a dairy free dessert is more your style. To be truly dairy free feel free to substitute the butter for margarine. This recipe can also be made gluten free by substituting the all-purpose flour for almond flour. This yields a slightly coarser crumb texture but is still delightful with the apples.

I hope you're able to enjoy some apples and eat a cozy dessert or two. Happy baking! :)
